Profile ]
Nathan Di Carlo is a proud team member of Australia's most successful Commonwealth Games Boxing Team to date. Representing in the Bantanweight Division, Nathan has travelled extensively with his team across Australia and as far as Norway and China in training and competition.
Having earned his position on the team in a scorching performance at the National Trials finals, he then went on to reside as a full time athlete at the Australian Institute of Sport where he trained under the expert guidance of Head Coach, Bodo Andreas.
Nathan's Commonwealth campaign was cut short, however, his journey is only just beginning as far as the stakes go. Being only 20 years of age, Nathan is set to peak at the right time for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
After a brief period of rest and recuperation, Nathan will again be training on home ground, with his very respected Trainer and Coach, Chris McCullen and The Logan Boxing Team- breeding ground for several Queensland and Australian Champions.
Nathan Di Carlo has been boxing since the age of 15 and in that time, he has become the Australian & Queensland Champion and a scholarship holder at the Australian Institute of Sport. Nathan’s profile is assuredly on the rise, having achieved Oceania and A.R.A.F.U.R.A Champion status already in 2005.
At the State & National Finals for selection on the 2006 Commonwealth Games Team hosted in Melbourne in August 2005, Nathan has again stepped up to the challenge for his medal campaign. The National Finals saw Nathan win a place on the Australian Squad where he was awarded the "Boxer of The Tournament". In a league of Australian Champions, this was surely one of his greatest acheivements to date.
Nathan’s
current record stands at:
49 Fights – 43 Wins – 6 Losses
Nathan has shown a distinct ability to overcome enormous pressure and he displays
great sportsmanship and respect to his peers and his competitors alike. The
fact that he has improved and indeed, succeeded through sheer hard work and
discipline, shows that he has a true champion qualities both inside the ring
and out.
It is this same strict discipline and will to strive for his goals that is seeing Nathan’s campaign journey for a Commonwealth & Olympic Gold Medal become a very real possibility.
Nathan is also an achiever outside the Sport. He is currently completing a double-major Degree in Business at The University of Queensland. Nathan has a long term goal of running his own successful business in the building and development industry
Nathan’s list of accomplishments as an athlete, are long, having continued on from his beginnings as a track athlete and Rugby League player. Nathan represented Queensland in the 800m track event and also played 5 years of A-Grade Football in the junior ranks with the South’s Rugby League Football Club. His team won 3 premierships during his time with the Club. Nathan was awarded the Seasons Best & Fairest Player in his final year.
Being no stranger to National and international competition, Nathan has displayed that he has the drive and dedication to become the best that he can be. Joining the highly reputable Logan Boxing Team proved to be a winning combination for Nathan. Under the guidance of the talented and respected Head Coach & Trainer, Chris McCullen, Nathan’s rise as an Olympic Style Boxer has been stunning.
Nathan aspires also to compete at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and is steadily on the road to achieving this. Nathan aims to expand his experience and accomplishments through National and International training and competition.
Nathan has also been selected to become a member of the elite Rightcross Squad who are based in Brisbane, Australia. The Rightcross Squad are a team of highly ranked Australian Champions who are intensely focused on their common goal of winning a Gold Medal.
The elite status of the squad is undeniable with the Boys, in representation of Queensland and Australia, taking home Gold Medals in the National and international tournaments they have competed in this year. Nathan and his squad are blitzing their way through the Commonwealth Trials.
Nathan
is loyally supported by his family and his friends and is respected by his
peers and his Coach for his dedication, potential and willingness to constantly
improve and expand his accomplishments. The future for this 20 year old Australian
Champion looks outstanding.
