Jarrod's 2006 Commonwealth Games Gold Medal

Jarrod Fletcher

Jarrod Fletcher is the Commonwealth Middleweight Champion, having won Gold at the 2006 Games in Melbourne. His proud attainment has been achieved after years of hard work and dedication to his sport. Jarrod proudly represented his country as the Australian Boxing Team Captain.

Jarrod has been an exemplary student of The Australian Institute of Sport for the past 4 years. In this time he has trained and competed extensively across Australia and the World. His time at the A.I.S, training under the guidance of the National Coach Bodo Andreas, has been a life of rigorous discipline & dedication.

Jarrod’s achievements also includes a place on the Australian Team for the 2002 Commonwealth Games hosted in Manchester, England. This was unexpected, yet deserving for the then, 18 year old. This was one of Jarrod’s most memorable boxing experiences. Boldly stated in his own words ‘…the atmosphere was unbelievable’. The experience gave him a taste of what it would be like to stand on the podium and recieve a medal, but nothing in Jarrods mind, can compare to the actual experience of winning gold on his home ground in front of his family, his team and thousands of loyal Aussie supporters.

Also on Jarrod’s long list of accomplishments- a Gold Medal at the 2003 Commonwealth Championships. Hiss name is also carved into history having been awarded the Jamie Nicholson Shield for the ‘Best Performed International Boxer at the Australian Championships’.

Jarrod is able to enjoy his boxing more now as he has made the decision to move up to the heavier middleweight division of 75kg. He is no stranger to elite competition or the extreme training and sacrifices that are required of an athlete to attain the best performance possible.

Jarrod has a personal philosophy to ‘just give it 110% and have no regrets’. Jarrod is well recognised as being one of the toughest and most disciplined Olympic Style Boxers in Australia, with his peers respecting his utmost dedication and sheer tenacity whilst in training and competing.

It is this kind of mental toughness that has long separated the elite from the ordinary and Jarrod certainly has the respect of his Trainers and his fellow Australian Team members and competitors across Australia and the Commonwealth.

When Jarrod is in training, his program is unrelentingly strict. He trains 6 days a week, twice a day with recovery sessions in between. Staying focused on the sport hasn't been a problem for Jarrod. He represented Queensland in Soccer at age 16 but decided to give his all to Boxing. His Father, David Fletcher guided his progress in the early days of his boxing career with The Hervey Bay Boxing Club and continues to be a great support to his son. When asked what the best thing his Dad has taught him, Jarrod responds - "The best thing my Dad taught me is to enjoy the sport and only do it if your heart is in it, otherwise you will end up hurt’.

Giving 110% effort and have no regrets is code that Jarrod has clearly lived by. This is the key force that has seen Jarrod become a qualified force in Olympic Style Boxing.

After a well earned rest from international travel and competing, Jarrod will again return his 2008 Olympic Games campain- The Ulitmate Quest for Gold. Jarrod also plans to use his talent and skills to assist others in achieving their potential in fitness and sport.

Jarrod and The Rightcross Management Team would like to thank John Howe and staff at Hyder Weathered Howe for their continued support and sponsorship.
